Different users have access to different functions of the site. While anyone can do most things on the site, including reading and editing, administrators can access a few additional functions.
Administrator abilities
These additional functions include but are not limited to:
- Deleting and undeleting pages, page histories, and uploaded files.
- Locking (protecting) a page so it cannot be edited or renamed by users without admin rights.
- Blocking IP addresses or user names from editing; and very quick "rollback" of undesirable edits.
- Editing the interface by changing system messages and skins.
A bureaucrat can change administrator, bureaucrat, and other rights for users on their wiki. However, he/she cannot remove bureaucrat access from another user. To request the removal of a bureaucrat's status, please see Wikia's contact page.
Chat moderator abilities
These abilities include:
- Kick users from chat if they are misbehaving.
- Blocking users from chat if they continue to disregard warnings.
Discussion moderator abilities
These abilities include:
- Removing and restoring threads and replies from any user.
- Closing and reopening threads.
- In the Forum feature specifically, moderators also have the ability to manage Forum boards, move threads from one board to another, and highlight and un-highlight threads.
- Moderating chat (similar to a chat moderator)
- Deleting blog comments.
- Editing and deleting article comments.
Content moderator abilities
These abilities include:
- Deleting and moving protected pages.
- Deleting and moving files.
- Undeleting pages and files.
- Being able to rollback edits.
- Reuploading files that were previously deleted.
- Protecting and unprotecting pages.
